Empowering Girls Education in Zimbabwe
WCE extends our condolences to the Deane family on the passing of Disque Deane.
“We’ve been supporters of WCE over the years”, said Disque Deane. “When Carol and I first learned about the Computers for Girls Initiative we wanted to help. Zimbabwe caught our attention because it’s a country that can have a great future."
"Because making it possible for girls to get a good, equal and modern education helps make a country great."
The Deane’s gift will provide 200 surplus computers to 16 schools, impacting 7,000 students. Two teachers from each of the 16 schools will be trained in how to use the Internet to improve classroom learning and curriculum. Once the computers have arrived, a team of 7 volunteer tech professionals will arrive to provide additional training and technology troubleshooting support. Finally, and at their request, each school will get a gas generator to support the computer labs.
"We take computers and access to the Internet for granted", Deane continued. "Giving youth access to computers and Internet technologies - especially when tied to education - offers unlimited promise. Supporting Computers for Girls is our way to help open new opportunities for them that, until now, they may have only dreamed of.”
WCE is grateful to Disque and Carol Deane for their very generous support of our Computers for Girls Initiative in Zimbabwe.
