Computer Exchange (WCE) is seeking four primary and/or secondary teachers
from Latin America and the Caribbean to work in multi-country team to develop
and pilot with their classes an experiential project. The project will be
on the issue of the "whys" and "hows" of the environmentally
appropriate reuse and disposal of previously used or dead computer equipment.
A sample module could be: "Avoiding Environmental Damage from Electronic
Waste (e-waste): Good Choices for Discarding Old Computers". WCE will
provide participating teachers with background factual materials and digital
links on e-waste as well as a stipend of $250 each. The e-waste project(s)
that is developed will be made widely available via our website to other teachers
in both English and Spanish. To be considered, teachers need to be teaching
in Latin America or the Caribbean and submit a resume and brief letter noting
familiarity with online hands-on experiential projects, interest in working
with teachers from other countries in the region, and experience teaching
about e-waste or computers. We will consider geographic and gender diversity
as well as diversity in the age of students. Please immediately send your
resume and letter to Pamela Cooney at: PCooney@WorldComputerExchange.org.
We hope that teachers will also post these as projects with
iEARN.org. It may also be linked to an e-waste tool kit for Latin America
and the Caribbean website that we conceived of and are co-developing with
our Partner Fundación Cultural
Quipus under a grant from IDRC.
