Help Fund Computers for Schools in Senegal
Your donation via Network For Good helps provide the following to 15,000 students in Senegal:
200 refurbished computers
Pre-loaded software containing instructional content in French
On line capacity building by our volunteer Programme Officers for Senegal
Delivery to the port of Dakar
WCE has sent containers of refurbished computers to schools assisted by Peace Corps Volunteers in Senegal twice before. The picture above shows our computers at an arrival ceremony in Senegal. We plan to ship to 11 schools assisted by 11 Peace Corps Volunteers again in September of 2011.
The computers are loaded with operating systems and office suites. We also provide content in French on topics such as education, technology, agriculture, health, programming & web development, entrepreneurship, leadership, computer recycling, potable water and solar energy.
The September shipment includes 200 refurbished Pentium 4 desktop computers that will arrive in Dakar. The computers will be received by the US Ambassador and the computers will be temporarily stored at the Peace Corps Country Office prior to being delivered to the schools by Peace Corps vehicles. Click here for more information.
The recipients will be the following 11 schools that will use these computers to connect about 15,000 students to the skills, opportunities and understanding of the Internet: Dabo, Dahra, Joal, Kaymor, Koupentoum, Linguere, Malene Niani, Mboro, Popenguine, Ronkh, and Taredji.
We encourage the staff at these schools to join iEARN-Senegal for teacher training and support.
The schools are raising funds to make this shipment possible, but they need help. The following 11 Peace Corps Volunteers are also helping to raise funds from their friends and families: Mary Allin, Dave Glovsky, Phil Aiken, Jennie Davis, Jillian Husman, Jonno Larson, Sarah Kopper, Laura Livesay, Alys Moshier, Josh Profitt, Danielle Stoermer, Cady Susswein, Steve Turnbull, and Kelsey Weber.
You can help reduce the delivered cost of these computers by making a donation via Network For Good. (Please enter “Senegal” in the designation box.)
If you are willing to help the Peace Corps Volunteers raise money from your friends and family to meet her goal, please e-mail: Senegal@WorldComputerExchange.org.
