Looking for Educational Content & Volunteers
Do you have or know of royalty-free content that is appropriate for primary and secondary students? Are you interested in volunteering your time to be part of this project?
WCE is actively seeking royalty-free content to include in our Content Project as well as volunteers to help us expand this project.
WCE takes educational content and preloads it on to the computers prior to shipping for use by teachers and youth when they do not have access to the Internet due to costs or connectivity. We also take content and translate it into various languages. The majority of our content is in English and Spanish. However we are gearing up to offer educational content in French and Arabic. Content areas include: education, computer recycling, technology, culture, health, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
We are also in the process of piloting our new teacher training curriculum in the Dominican Republic as part of our eCorps trip there. After review and evaluation we plan to update the curriculum and use it as part of all eCorps. Our eCorps trip to Zimbabwe in September may be the first to implement the updated teacher training curriculum.
This effort is being led by WCE Volunteer Jack O’Donnell who is our Regional Manager for Latin America and Chicago Coordinator.
Jack piloted the first content package in Spanish for our Dominican Republic shipment. This Sponsored shipment for the Dominica Republic arrived in January and a team of 10 eCorps tech and teacher training volunteers will arriving in April to help the schools from everything from trouble shooting to helping build the capacity of our 10 Partner organizations so they can maintain and use the computers in the classroom. Read more about our content project as well as more information about our eCorps April trip to the Dominican Republic.
Jack is also looking for volunteers to help us expand our Content Project. Volunteers should have strong research skills, a background in education, or a familiarity with public health, computer tutorials, agriculture, teaching and environmental resources. Since all content is indexed in three languages we are looking for volunteers who are able to translate English web indexes into Spanish and French.
