News
Brian Lawrence of The Ark met with WCE president Timothy Anderson at the TechSoup and ICRS MAR Summit in Toronto in May of 2008. Since then we have been preparing plans to begin a WCE Chapter in Auckland, New Zealand.
They have now gathered 400 1.3 gig Celeron Computers to begin working together. Brian Lawrence is now talking to a local polytech to get some student volunteers as well as some corporate support to help with some resources to get these computers tested and ready to go. He is also talking to a couple of Computer industry organisations to try and get corporate sponsorship to assist in this process. to help with freight and Logistics.
WCE New Zealand wants to ship computers to the Pacific Islands countries as they are closely tied to their country and relevant to businesses in New Zealand.
We are seeking volunteers to help with testing and refurbishing.
We are seeking financial Sponsors to help decrease the costs for our Partners in the Pacific Island.
New Steering Committee being formed: Brian Lawrence has agreed to be the chair and he will be joined by the Coordinator from iEARN New Zealand, a Senior Tutor at MIT ( Manukau Institute of Technology) http://www.manukau.ac.nz/ and also the GM for Express Data http://www.expressdata.co.nz ( a large local computer software distribution company)
