Peace Corps Volunteers Bridging the Digital Divide in Honduras
| Peace Corps volunteers get local schools ready for computers. Six Peace Corps Volunteers in various parts of Honduras are helping local schools in the communities where they are based prepare for a shipment of 180 computers to World Vision from World Computer Exchange with financial support from Rotary Clubs in the USA. |
The Volunteers have arranged for World Vision to be the consignee receiving this shipment and seeing that it gets to the communities that have provided financial donations.
This is our first shipment to Honduras.
The Chatham Rotary Club in Massachusetts and the Clayton Rotary Club in Missouri each donated funds toward this shipment.
Another 30 computers in this shipment are going to the youth school in a prison in Danli run by Hope Fellowship Ministries of Mountain Movers Missions International.
Bob Klepper is the WCE Programme Officer for Honduras who has helped to get this shipment organized and has raised $2,217 toward the sourcing and shipping costs. There is still $2,935 needed to help with the costs of this shipment.
The average annual income in Honduras is $4,100 and about 4.4% of the population currently use the Internet.
We hope that this shipment will be leaving the States for Honduras soon.
If you wish to donate to this shipment, please include the note "Honduras".
After the shipment arrives, we expect to schedule a visit by one of our eCorps tech teams. We are currently seeking a company to help with part of the costs for this visit.
