Equitable Computer Distribution
Computer Distribution Policy
WCE's goal is to have all of its government and NGO partners in each country receive a fair and equitable mix of computers so that they will have a share of all levels of the computers that are available in the inventory of the WCE office from which they are receiving a shipment. This is important so that every partner gets a fair share of the faster computers that they can use for servers so that their networks can operate as effectively as possible in providing Internet access for youth.
From time to time, WCE receives a request from a partner for a shipment of all higher-speed computers. Often this request is for computers that are faster than the existing infrastructure in their country can currently optimally use.
The WCE Board of Directors voted on 8 December 2002 not to provide shipments that are of only newer computers and that all WCE shipments will include a fair spread of all of the computers that are available and that the only differences in our costs will be between Apple Macintosh Power Macs and Pentium level PCs.
