About World Computer Exchange Chapters
World Computer Exchange depends on chapter volunteers to help us accomplish our mission. Volunteers help:

Raise Sponsorship funds to help WCE Partners with the last 1/3 of the sourcing and shipping costs (this includes Rotary Clubs)

Coordinate marketing for public computer donation events, eCorps recruitment, volunteer recruitment, speakers bureau, and press releases for shipments

Pick-up, inventory, test and pack donated used computers

Recruit eCorps tech volunteers from local universities and community and organize Speakers Bureau and work with local universities and high schools on community service, pairings, interns

Recruit, organize and nurture volunteers to help with Chapter & field work including for eWaste, eCorps, and capacity building

We accept computers that are Pentium 3 or newer but only issue charitable tax receipts for computers in working order that are Pentium 4 or newer. Monitors need to be 15-19" and less than 10 years. Donations Outreach Volunteer
- Solicit Donations from local Ottawa businesses
- Maintain a list and follow up with prospective donators
- Help to increase the organization’s community profile and fundraising initiatives
Computer Donations Collector:
- Your job would be to collect computer equipment donations and move them from the donor’s site to our storage warehouse.

News:
- Preparing for April 2012 shipment of 200 computers with French content to schools in Senegal or Mali or Guinea
- Preparing for February 2012 shipment of 200 computers with English content to schools in Ghana.
- December 2011, Lionel Croteau, WCE Ottawa Coordinator was part of the WCE eCorps team who visited Zimbabwe to help prepare computers for distribution to the WCE Partners there.
- June 2011, WCE Ottawa shipped container of 200 computers to schools in Zimbabwe, WCE-Canada Executive Director, Timothy Anderson, visited to help with the loading and to meet with the WCE Ottawa volunteers
- July 2010, Lionel Croteau became the 6th WCE Ottawa Coordinator
- In January 2010, prior WCE Ottawa Coordinator, Nish Patel, arranged for a pro bono analysis of the WCE website by Napkyn Inc.
- Svjetlana Minarevic moved to Winnipeg and WCE wishes her well and thanks her for her excellent work leading the team in getting the computers ready for shipment
- August 2009: Carleton University donated 135 computer sets
- Nissan Canada generously donated 190 working Pentium 3 and 4 computers and also generously donated the delivery from Toronto to Boyds Warehouse in Ottawa. See press release from Nissan Canada.
- The fist shipment of 200 computers from Ottawa was sent to Afghanistan. See related news story under the "News" tab at the top.
- WCE-Canada thanks Boyds Warehouse for their generous donation of space during the months since this equipment was packed.
- Coordinator Christine Chéné presented a certificate of appreciation for their generous ongoing help to Debbie Birch for the Anglican Parish of St. Mary the Virgin.
