Our Network

Our Network

Whether working with UNDP in Bangladesh, World Vision in Honduras, Rotary in Mali or Peace Corps volunteers in El Salvador, World Computer Exchange works through our 700 partner organisations in 77 developing countries to deliver on our mission: To connect youth in developing countries to the skills, opportunities & understanding of the Internet while keeping working computers out of landfills.

In order to do this, WCE aspires to make each of our partner organisations stronger, to build their leadership and capacity in order for them to be more capable organizations, now and in the future. Trust, due diligence, cooperation and co-investment are the cornerstones that ensure long-term sustainability.

And we don't do it alone.

Volunteers

Our 800+ volunteers work to keep surplus computers out of landfills and give them new lives connecting schools, universities, libraries, orphanages and youth centers to the opportunities, skills and understanding of the Internet. They serve as resources to our partner organizations helping them with a whole host capacity building skills. Volunteer with WCE.

Strategic Allies

WCE leverages the resources of a consortium of 25 global educational and environmental strategic allies to provide our partner organizations with needed assistance. We work closely with them to help us recruit partners, plan our programs, provide advice on local development strategies, and to provide services and programs to our partner organisations in developing countries. These organisations are crucial to our continued success and development.

WCE counts among our strategic allies:

Africa Network, Asociación de Estados Iberoamericanos para el Desarrollo de las Bibliotecas Nacionales de Iberoamérica, Association of African Universities, Asha for Education, Berkman Institute for the Study of the Internet and Society, BluWorld, Center for Democracy & Development,  COMET International, Global Voices, iEARN USA, International Executive Service Corps, Kabissa, RESPECT International, Satellife, SDNP/UNDP, Special Libraries Association, Stockholm Challenge, Taking IT Global, WiderNet Project-University of Iowa, University of the People, UN Volunteers Programme, United Nations Information Technology Service, Youth Employment Summit Campaign.

Why do we work this way?

World Computer Exchange believes in the power of partnership to bridge the digital divide and dramatically improve educational opportunities for youth in developing countries.  Since our founding in 1999, WCE has focused on harnessing the talents of volunteers, partnering with in-country organizations ready and able to work with us to bridge the digital divide for their youth, and allying ourselves with a wide range of like-minded organisations with the talent, resources and missions to improve opportunities for youth and the communities they live in.

This approach enables us to have significant and sustainable impact evidenced by our partner organizations reporting that over 1 million youth are connected to the Internet every year. Collaboration, we believe, entails capacity building, giving them the guidance and support to make them stronger organisations agreed to work collaboratively with WCE in multiple countries to accomplish projects within our mission.
