Peace Corps Volunteers Helping Educate Youth
Peace Corps volunteers are easy to spot. They're excited and full of enthusiasm about making a difference. They exude that ‘can-do’ attitude; take on challenges without a second thought. And it's that combination that's energizing a group of current and former Peace Corps volunteers to make it possible for the youth in their 10 countries to have a better education.
Currently Peace Corps volunteers in the following 10 countries are assisting in raising funds for WCE shipments of refurbished computers to the communities they assist - Armenia, Benin, Cameroon, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda and Ukraine.
This picture shows a Peace Corps recent distribution of WCE computers to a rural village in Honduras. This shipment included hundreds of indestructible soccer balls donated by the One World Futbol Project.
When these 10 projects are funded their efforts will touch the lives of over 50,000 youth annually.
Besides the Peace Corps volunteers, their Country Directors have also been involved - providing temporary storage for the arriving computers, allowing for Peace Corps vehicles to help deliver the computers to schools assisted by their volunteers and arranging with the US Ambassador to be the consignee for the arriving container.
To help WCE better assist Peace Corps volunteers, WCE is pleased to announce that Emily Morris has agreed to undertake the volunteer role of WCE Peace Corps Relations Manager. Emily was a Peace Corps volunteer from 2008-2010 in Senegal. She assisted her village in raising funds to cover WCE's sourcing and shipping costs. She raised money faster than any other Peace Corps volunteer with whom WCE has worked. She recently was delighted when the chief of her rural village wrote to her by email. Impact! Emily is joined in providing the volunteers with fundraising help by SIdney Brien, WCE Director of Development. Emily will begin to write a series of stories about the status, use and impact of the computers that WCE has shipped to Peace Corps volunteers.
WCE has shipped computers to schools assisted by Peace Corps volunteers in Bolivia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Malawi, Moldova, Philippines, Senegal and Tanzania.
