Volunteer roles within WCE Chapter
Each Chapter is guided by a Steering Committee whose names are listed on the WCE website and who meet quarterly to guide the operations of WCE in their city. We seek university, corporate, and Rotary reps for each Steering Committee. The operations of each Chapter are led by a Coordinator who regularly reports to the Chair of the Steering Committee and to the WCE President. The Coordinator updates the language for their webpage and reports on their inventory to the WCE Operations Director at the end of each quarterly. Chapters are encouraged to each form a working Marketing Team.
There are five areas of work for each Chapter. Coordinators are encouraged to recruit a volunteer to build and lead a team in each area. We will seek to have the leaders in each area communicate with each other.
- Fund Raising: Raise Sponsorship funds to help WCE Partners with the last 1/3 of the sourcing and shipping costs (this includes Rotary Clubs). Proposals and letters of request are available. Organizing a fund raising event can be fun and raise money at the same time. Your can: Throw a fund raising party, hold a benefit concert, host a bowling night, sponsor a bake sale, organize a bike-a-thon or Twitter your social network. You can direct donation to our website or set up your own fundraising pages using Facebook or firstgiving. Proceeds from the event can fund a computer shipment to a specific country
- Marketing Team: Coordinate marketing for public computer donation events, eCorps recruitment, volunteer recruitment, speakers bureau, and press releases for shipments. Sample press releases, and flyers are available.
- Computer Donations: Pick-up, inventory, test and pack donated used computers. This includes calling the 200 largest companies, universities and nonprofits in your city. Solicitation letters, promo attachments and testing and packing guidelines are available. The team posts the names of organizational donors on an honor roll on the chapter's webpage and sends a quarterly inventory to the Director of Operations.
- University Partnerships: Recruit eCorps tech volunteers from local universities and community and organize Speakers Bureau and work with local universities and high schools on community service, pairings, interns. University recruitment letters and eCorps applications are available.
- Volunteers: Recruit, organize and nurture volunteers to help with Chapter & field work including for eWaste, eCorps, and capacity building. Chapter job descriptions and volunteer applications are available.
