Seeking volunteers to help with drop-offs, testing and storage.
Activities
- Acquiring computer donations in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley from individuals and companies.
- Recruiting adults with good technology skills from the Bay Area and Silicon Valley to help WCE partners in developing countries to develop an implementation plan for the use of used computers in their local schools.
- Recruiting K-12 teachers in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley to act as sister-teachers to teachers in developing countries that are new to technology.
- Recruiting community service programs in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley high schools and universities to help with our local activities and to staff online help desks for a group of schools in a developing country that are new to technology.
- Recruiting a small team of volunteer "Internet Ambassadors" from the Bay Area and Silicon Valley high schools and universities who are willing to visit and train local youth about technology and the Internet in exchange for learning about local history and culture.
Volunteering
We need volunteers from San Francisco to help to accomplish the following five tasks (Roles Within WCE Offices):
- Pick-up, inventory, test and pack donated used computers
- Coordinate public computer donation events, speakers bureau and press releases
- Recruit participation of local universities and high schools (for community service, pairings, interns and eCorps trips)
- Raise Sponsorship funds to help WCE Partners with the last 1/3 of the sourcing and shipping costs (this includes Rotary)
- Recruit volunteers to help with Chapter & field work or to be an eCorps tech volunteer or staff a youth Internet camp
WCE also needs volunteers to provide online support to WCE partners in developing countries in the following three roles (Online Volunteer Roles)
- Online Tech Support Volunteer
- Online Content Support Volunteer
- Online Telecenter Management Support Volunteer

- ABC Storage in Mountain View, CA, has graciously donated space in their storage facility to house donated computers for WCE until they can be moved to containers and shipped to developing countries. Thank you ABC Storage!
