Universities Initiative

Our project

  • Survey universities in North and South on how WCE can help build good partnerships
  • Recruit more universities into WCE network to be bases for WCE computer, eWaste and eCorps work
  • Help universities in the South build good partnerships with universities in the North
  • Provide universities in the South with needed logistics, equipment, content and services
  • Provide universities in the South with access to WCE network for needed resources

World Computer Exchange aims to begin helping ten universities in North America and Europe and ten universities in Africa to build good partnerships.

This project is being guided by the WCE African Universities Initiative (AUI) Consortium co-chaired by Thomas Benson and Henry Thairu.  Dr. Benson is the Executive Director of the World Leadership Corps, chair of the AfricaNetwork, and President Emeritus of Green Mountain College in Vermont, USA.  Professor Thairu is Vice Chancellor Designate of the Kenya School of Professional Studies guiding its growth into Inoorero University in Kenya.  He is the former Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academics at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

The other members of the Consoritum are at this link.

For May-September of 2009, this project is being staffed by the AUI intern, Robert Karuga Kariuki, a graduate student at the University of Indiana.

The revised AUI proposal will be posted here in June 2009.
